“FACEBOOK – ABOUT FACE”

Facebook was founded and launched by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. The website's membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University.

There are more than 600 million active users log on to Facebook in any given day around the world. This is the most popular social networking site and service that Filipinos went crazy and eccentric since it started last February 2004.

But, in Zamboanga City in South Cotabato, government employees are prohibited from using it especially during office hours. Officials found out, most of them are obsessed playing Farmville, City Ville, Mafia Wars, Nightclub City, Hotel City, Castle Age and a lot more applications and games. Moreover, they are caught chatting with officemates making operations and government transactions slower.

“It’s just proper to restrict our employees’ access to these sites since it may eventually hamper our over-all producti¬vity and slow down the capability of the province’s server,” said South Cotabato Gov. Arthur Pingoy, Jr.

They’re not prohibited using the internet since most of the time a certain transaction requires it and they should always remember they are serving the government and the most especially the people. Most of the offices and departments in provincial government have internet connection but I don’t know why their supervisors and department heads are not doing something to resolve this issue, (Well may be their also busy planting in their farms, hahaha). Due to this misuse of the facility, the speed connection got slower affecting the processing of some transactions.

Actually, not only in government institutions Facebook is not allowed but in some Call Center or BPO companies because it both affects the connection and the quality as well.

Remember we are being paid because we render hours doing tasks and responsibilities given to us. We’re not here to play games and socialize with other nationalities. These sites are created for us to enjoy and help us release stress and boredom. It also helps us connect with our friends, schoolmates, colleagues and family living outside the country.

There’s always a time for fun and pleasure. We are held accountable and responsible for everything we do so we should be vigilant and focus on our careers to be successful. Again, the success of the government not only lies in its leaders, but with the cooperation of its people and the community.
